Bloom and Grow Words Yellow by Simple Simon and Company for Riley Blak
Growing up, both Elizabeth and Liz read and reread “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. They were enamored with the tale of young Mary seeking “a bit of earth” to tend and, in the process, discovering not only a secret garden but also the joy and power that comes with the love of family and friends.
“And the secret garden bloomed and bloomed and every morning revealed new miracles.” Burnett, Frances Hodgson, 1849-1924. The Secret Garden. Boston, MA: D.R. Godine, 1987.
As they grew up, both Elizabeth and Liz began to discover and tend to their own secret gardens -- marrying their spouses, teaching school, raising children, and being actively involved in their different communities. And as time progressed, seasons changed; first-year teachers transformed, newlyweds celebrated 20-year anniversaries, and babies grew into teenagers. With these seasons, Elizabeth and Liz thought again of “The Secret Garden.”
